This year to celebrate the Australian Year of the Farmer the Lismore Show is offering visitors a farm yard experience at the Food Farm. The animal nursery is the perfect place for the kids to get up close to some of the animal stars of the show. Visitors can pat and feed animals such as lambs, rabbits, piglets, calves, ducks, chickens and goats. This year the animal nursery entry will be free of charge.
In the Food Farm the kids can help a dairy farmer milk one of their gentle, good natured cows in the milking barn. There are also milking machine demonstrations and you can learn from experts about the cows, their milk and what eat to stay healthy.
In the chook shed children can have a go at collecting eggs and can pot up a vegetable or herbĀ seedling to take home.
Within the farmyard visitors can see the sheep, goats, alpacas and guinea pig displays and competitions as well as other displays relating to farm animals.
The Food Farm also contains a talking shed where during the show there will be exciting presentations about the various aspects of farming in the Northern Rivers Region.
